| Raas Garba |
|
Every year the annual Raas Garba takes place after shraddha. Bhaktas decorate the Mandir and hang many rows of colorful pennants. The colorful lights which were strung across the ceiling and the bright saris draped and hung create a fantastic effect. The Garba always features live bands. Bhaktas install Durga Devi in the center of the Mandir's worship area. Devotees of all ages dance around Durga Devi. Mothers carry their babies enjoying their first raas garba in their arms, young children toddle around and teens dance all night. Children barely able to walk dance just as enthusiastically as seniors. The largest number attend on the weekends when over 1200 might be present for the festivities. To see the room filled with colorful ornate and beautiful outfits (lengha cholis, saris, and salwar kameeez) is an amazing site. Every year one can hear the same refrain. “I wish the Garba was longer. Why does it have to end?” |
